It all started with singing in the shower. Then, after some friends convinced me to front their band for our high school talent show, and we nailed it – I was hooked! I learned to play by ear or what some call self-taught. Singing and writing songs led to an interest in playing guitar, followed by nearly every instrument I could get my hands on. I’m still a student of music and love experimenting with sound, using instruments unconventionally and exploring genre-blending. After singing in several bands, I released my self-titled debut solo album Bilal Butt in 2011 – a collection of acoustic songs I wrote somewhere in the woods or sitting by the water. I am currently working on a follow-up album with a focus on electric guitar and a larger band this time.

With nearly 20 years experience playing Montreal’s pub circuit, touring Eastern Canada, appearing at Osheaga and Owl’s Head festivals, an album launch at CHOM with my single on rotation for the summer (Thanks to Tootall), recording a song and video with legends Manu Chao and Jah Cutta – it’s been a great ride and I hope it never stops!
